What is VoIP?
Traditional phone calls are carried over a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), whereas VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls are carried thru the internet. VoIP is fast becoming superior to traditional telephony in that it avoids toll charges allowing for substantial savings on your company phone bills. Indeed, recent findings concluded that VoIP telephone networks typically save at least 20 to 40% off your monthly phone bills.
Not only does the Titan VoIP system allow you to make local and long distance calls, you also get the additional benefits of being able to take advantage of fourteen calling features – 3 way calling, conference calling, voicemails sent as voice emails, plus many more useful and productive features.
The Titan VoIP system also allows you to take advantage of new business benefits such as using integrated communication channels, real time global web conferencing, portability, which would otherwise be unavailable (or prohibitively expensive) to your business.
How Does VoIP Work – Example of a Standard VoIP Network

So as you can see you probably already have most of the components you require to have your very own VoIP network!
And the most beautiful part of having a VoIP network? Apart from the actual phone handsets, all the other components are needed for your IT infrastructure, so you save on your business capital costs!
Common VoIP Myths
Myth: Voice quality is bad.
There are 3 primary reasons why VoIP networks are prone to problems:
- Internet connection: Poor internet means poor VoIP. To make the VoIP work Titan recommends an ADSL for your connection, and with a minimum of 100mb/sec per line. Titan is also able to provide additional internet lines to ensure that both the office network & VoIP lines operate in ideal conditions.
- Your existing network: One of the biggest challenges faced with VoIP users is that their IT networks are unable to control ‘the last mile’. ‘The last mile’ is where the internet connection physically connects to your network, and there are no controls or regulators to determine which of your devices access the quality bandwidth needed to make crystal clear phone calls. Imagine you are on an important phone call, and another office user decides to download a file from the internet. Without effective control over the bandwidth any network device is able to hijack and use bandwidth with no consideration for other users. The end result is either a dropped call or gaps in your conversation with your client. Titan, using its innovative PORTHOG™ solution, is able to eliminate the last mile issue by introducing QOS (Quality of Service) protocols, and enforce traffic shaping ensuring that your VoIP phones work each and every time you use the phones – say goodbye to the last mile problem!
- The quality of the Codec used to transmit the VoIP calls: Codec encodes your phone call allowing calls to be made or received. Most VoIP providers only use 24mb/sec to transmit their VoIP calls, whereas the Titan VoIP is transmitted at 100mb/sec – so you have access to uncompressed VoIP! This allows for unparalleled voice quality, think of it as a separate pipeline for each of your sinks, showers, toilets and never having to worry that the water pressure will drop while having a shower if someone is using the sink, or flushing the toilet!
Myth: VoIP is not secure.
There are fears that since your VoIP call is being transmitted via the internet, an experienced hacker could intercept and listen to all your VoIP calls. Titan uses end-to-end encryption, thanks to the PORTHOG™ solution, enabling you to make calls with no fears about having your important conversations hacked. This same technology has been used by Titan to service our multi-national corporate clients, and has never been compromised, protecting their entire IT network from malicious users.
Myth: Switching to VoIP is a huge investment.
There are concerns about the costs of switching over to a VoIP network which include: new phones, switches, and the most significant cost, PBX , ranging from $10-$20,000.With Titan you have the luxury of using our ‘Virtual PBX’, why buy one when you can use ours for FREE! Myth: If you don’t choose a ‘big player’ you don’t know if the company will still be there tomorrow.
Here today, gone tomorrow – that is a common problem many customers face when trying to find a reliable provider of services.

All upgrades are done after hours, not having any affect on your day to day business. Providing your business with a hassle-free service with no license fees, no maintenance giving you peace of mind.
